What are the benefits of Montessori subscription boxes?
Mar 23, 2022 - Montessori , Montessori Box - By Carine Robin
Educational boxes for children are very popular. You can find so many kinds of monthly subscriptions, from children's magazine, to craft boxes or baking boxes.
And of course, there is our Montessori aligned monthly box.
We launched in 2018, nearly 4 years ago! I cannot believe how times flies! We went through a pandemic together and our subscription box has been so helpful when many parents were full-time at home with their children.
What are the benefits of subscribing to an activity box? Can you not do it yourself?
Let's see.
Everything is done for you:
We take the hard work out of your hands. While most parents enjoy bringing more Montessori activities into their home, it can be overwhelming to prepare a stimulating environment. If you work full-time, if you just had a baby or if you would prefer to relax in front of Netflix in the evening then our Montessori box is for you.
No more searching Pinterest, no more printing, cutting, laminating. Our materials are made professionally in the UK and hand-finished by yours truly!
Time and money savers:
One of the main advantages of subscribing to the box is that you don't have to spend time searching for materials. We create 10 to 15 activities around a specific Montessori topic. We even add further ideas in the member's area.
Although you can find many Montessori freebies, if you want high-quality 3-part cards and other educational materials, you will have to pay for each of them. Our box has an average of 3 to 5 sets of cards (3 part-cards, counting cards, sorting cards) and we don't count how many in each set. Our box is very generous.
It's not to mention the costs for you if you had to print everything on high-quality paper then laminate. Your Montessori freebie is in fact not that free if you include your research, your time, and the printing costs.
Designed by a Montessori teacher:
I am the one designing all the materials including in the box. You can trust that it's 100% in line with the Montessori principles.
I have several Montessori schools in the UK taking my monthly boxes. Some of my subscribers are Montessori teachers using the materials at home with their own children. I think it's a sign that we are an authentic Montessori-inspired box of activities.
Harmonious materials:
While you can find all kinds of freebies on the Internet, while you can pay for many different kinds of Montessori printables, it's hard to have harmonious materials.
Our boxes are illustrated in the same manner, providing continuity among the topics. There is order and cohesion. All our cards are the same size from one box to the other. We use the same Montessori print font for all the words and written materials.
Your child can mix the materials from different boxes to extend the learning. For example, the Emotions, the Anatomy and the Season boxes all feature the same children's characters.
24 popular topics:
Based on my experience in the classroom and as a mother of two, I have selected 24 popular topics among young children. Here are a few of them: Dinosaurs, Anatomy, Trees, Rainforest, Bees, Farm, Seaside, Space, and many others. Check also our one-off, past boxes here.
As we are based in the UK, some of our topics are "more European". For example, the Woodland box is about animals that would typically live in European forests, such as badgers and Red Deer. We don't include Grizzly Bear or Caribou.
Having said that, our boxes are well-loved by our international customers. If you are outside Europe, check your options here.
Don't worry you don't need to be trained to use it! I will guide you and I will invite you to be flexible and creative with the materials. The purpose is not to recreate a Montessori classroom.
Long lasting materials:
Although most of our materials are printed materials, there are of high-quality, printed on the thickest paper possible. Our 3-part cards are "play cards" quality.
Craft materials are generally reusable materials such as stencils, stamps, and so on.
You can print more templates from the member's area that you will have access to when you are a subscriber.
Are you looking for Montessori activities for your child, but you don't have time to make three-part cards and search for printables?
Multi-age learning:
Our box is in line with the Montessori 3 to 6 curriculum. Many parents start the box when their children are around 2 years old. If you supervise your toddler closely (and maybe remove any small items, such as craft items), then a 2 year old will enjoy some of the activities. For example, they will start by matching picture to objects or picture to pictures. They will learn new vocabulary exploring a less familiar topic (such as learning all the birds' names from our bird box). When they are in the 3-6 age group, they will play differently with the Montessori materials, making full use of the different activities.
And many parents have said that they are taking the box out again now that their children are 7 or 8 years old. Some of our boxes, such as the Space box or the Anatomy box, have in-depth guides, full of child-friendly information, to explore the topic.
Parents might take the box for their 3 years old but then older siblings enjoy the box as much.
Eco-friendly:
As the bulk of our materials is paper-based, our box is inherently eco-friendly. The company we work with uses FSC paper. We package our materials in in recycled box sealed with paper tape. When we include craft materials, we make sure they are long-lasting to reduce waste. Any plastic included in the box (such as the popular stencils) is reusable plastic. We make sure we don't include any single-use plastic and pointless craft kits that you would throw away after they have completed the activity.
Our box makes your child feel special:
In general, children will be delighted to receive a box just for them every month through their letterbox. You can add their name when you subscribe and they will know it's for them!
Thanks to the box, once a month, you will be prompted to spend quality time with your children. I know first-hand how hard it is to balance work and family life so let our box take the burden off your hand and enjoy connecting and playing more with your family, while they learn about nature and the world around them.
Loved by more than 1000 families!
Most of our families stay an average of one year and half of our subscribers complete the whole 24 months cycle.
In total so far, knowing that the number of boxes we produce each month was limited to 200 the first 2 years (we are now able to produce around 400 a month), we have had 1108 families enjoying the box, as they stay subscribed for many months.
Our Montessori box is often sold out so make sure you secure your spot. This is also why some families subscribe even if their child is not 3 years old yet.
